CADILLAC - Black Jack, Bob, Athena, Danno and Bucka are waiting until they can get back to doing what they do best - bringing smiles to people’s faces.
As a result of the storm that ravaged through the area last week, these inhabitants of Johnny’s Wild Game and Fish Park are waiting for the Cadillac attraction to open back up after it sustained damage related to the storm, according to owner Brian Johnson.
Although there were no animal casualties as a result of the storm, Johnson said the park had flood damage and he and his family are working to ensure the park is able to open on June 28.
"We lost the main bridge at the park and had to relocate the animals. All the animals were saved thanks to a lot of friends and family," Johnson said. "There are 50 birds and 40 animals like farm animals, buffalo and deer. Everything in the river area had to be moved."
At about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Johnson said the water was rising and he pulled planks on the bridge to try and let water go down faster. At about midnight, he determined it was not working and decided to move all the animals. The process continued throughout the night and the final animal was not move until 5 a.m. Friday.
Johnny’s Wild Game and Fish Park, named after Herb "Johnny" Johnson, will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning June 28 through Labor Day. For more information about the park call 775-3700 or log on to www.johnnyspark.com.
